Hello!
We're now well into December. The Month is flying by. It's the Christmas month, the Holiday month, the Skype home month, the month of snow, and presents, and carols, and hot chocolate, and wishes. For us it is a little different though. It's a month of prayer, of cold fingers and toes, of singing hymns, of bearing testimony, of focusing on what matters most, of celebrating the Savior. I am so thankful to be in December.
Sister Fenn and I have had a lot of really good experiences so far. It just amazes me to see how much Heavenly Father loves his children. And how much he blesses us. We are always being given blessings, sometimes it is a blessing of health, sometimes it's a smile from a stranger. But there are always signs that God lives. And that He loves us.
So here are some of the experiences I have had this week.
Monday: We were able to attend the YSA (young single adult) Family Home Evening activity. We read the scriptures together and talked about how we can take the example of Lehi and his parenting into our own lives. Sometimes we need to be patient, all of the time we need to have faith and choose to keep the commandments.
Tuesday: We went to The Gathering Place, to help serve lunch to the Elderly. Unfortunately we missed serving most of the meal, but that's because we were solicited to sing a karaoke song for everyone! It was some country song that Sister Fenn knew. But we tried our best and a nice gentleman came and sang with us! It was so much fun!
That evening we taught a lesson to one of our investigators, a young man. The Elders came with us, and one of his friends, a member also joined the lesson. Together we taught him about the Restoration of the Gospel. It was a great lesson. He had a lot of good questions. It's fun to be teaching more again! I've missed it.
Wednesday: So I can't remember if this happend wednesday or another day. But Sister Fenn woke up and said, "Sister Smith! It's time to get up." I rolled over and asked her if we slept in, she said it was five minutes past time and that she didn't know where the phone with our alarm was. So I got out of bed and said my prayer. Then I walked out of our room and found our phone on the couch. When I checked the phone I saw that it was only 5:30 in the morning! I walked back in, "Silly Sister Fenn, we still have an hour." and we went right back to bed. hahaha.
That afternoon we had a lesson with someone who used to meet with the Sisters! She is in her late 20's or early 30's and has three cute children! We went to her house and got to know her a little better. We tried turning off the TV to remove distractions, but her remote just died and we couldn't get the back off to replace the batteries! She said it's always hard to take off, the last person had to pry it open with a butter knife! So we talked over the TV and got to know her a little better. She's so sweet, and we really look forward to meeting with her again.
Thursday: SERVICE! We went to a member's home and spent 3 hours cleaning her main room/bedroom. We had a great time getting into our jeans and picking up trash, steam-cleaning and re-organizing. It definitely helped me to appreciate the cleanliness of my house back home. And it felt great to be able to help this Sister have a better living situation!
We also attended ARP (addiction recover program). It was a lot of fun because I attended this back in Amherst. We skype in together, read through the book and talk and such. (It's a lot like AA) And when we went to this meeting guess who I got to see!? My old companion in Amherst! It was fun to see Sister Coleman, even if it was on a tiny computer screen. I love her so much! All of my companions have been so wonderful!
Friday: Naturally it was my turn to have something funny happen at night. So here's the story. Usually it's robotic when we wake up, roll out of bed to pray and then go do our exercise program 5bx. So I woke up and I was in the middle of finishing a prayer. I was really confused because I didn't remember getting out of bed at all. I said my prayer and saw that Sister Fenn was in bed and it was really dark. So I checked the phone and it was 12:38am!!! I have no clue why I rolled out of bed, but it's official. I pray in my sleep. :)
Saturday: The best part of saturday was our lesson with a less active member. We taught the plan of salvation! My sister sent me these really cute visual aids and we had her use those to teach us what she knew. Then we went through and retaught the parts she forgot or didn't understand, it was great!
Another fun thing was the Christmas Parade in downtown Presque Isle! One of our members even had a hand in creating one of the floats. A great big snowglobe! it was a lot of fun and we got to talk to some people out in the cold.
Sunday: Fast Sunday! Church was amazing as usual, I really enjoyed our relief society lesson. We talked about Jesus Christ and his humble birth. It is so important to remember the Christ in Christmas. That evening we had a wonderful meal at some of the members home. And! They got a puppy last week, so we got to play with a darling little dog, it was practically a Christmas present of it's own! They announced at church that they would broadcast the Christmas devotional there, but when we came no one was there and it was too late to drive out to anyone's home to see it. So I missed the devotional but I encourage everyone to check it out! I bet it was great! It's on lds.org.
So that was my week! There are great parts and others that you sort of cringe at to remember. But as long as we try our hardest and make up for our mistakes, we're on the right path.
I'm really thankful for this time to be Serving the Lord! And I am thankful for all of you. Stay safe this week and remember, #heisthegift
