Hello Everyone! I hope you have all had a fabulous week!
I had a great week, sorry I didn't write last week I feel like I've been so disorganized! But we're back! So no worries :)
Monday: Sister Fenn and I enjoyed our preparation day, we went on some adventures up to Mad Rock but were eager to get back to work. Sister Young had us over for supper and we helped her to make sugar cookies for a relief society activity later in the week! After we left Sister Young's house we went to South River to visit with one of our investigators! We read with her from the Book of Mormon to try to help her get back into the habit. She feels too tired and busy, but she knows that reading the scriptures will bring blessings! Luckily work will be winding down in the next few weeks so she'll have more time and energy, we're trying to keep her going in the mean time so she can have the spiritual blessings and energy from reading!
Tuesday: We were able to teach another lesson! Great! Sister Martland met us at the church to teach about fasting. Our friend is so strong in the gospel. I love her, she understands things so clearly and has a real desire to follow Christ. We also visited the Moores, a wonderful couple in this Branch. Brother Moores was the one that introduced me to indexing! We had a nice visit with them! That evening we taught the "Doctrine of the Gospel" Class, it was on the Sacrament! I was really thankful for that because it helped me to remember the blessings that come from it!
Wednesday: Now that the weather is better we've been looking around the parks and things trying to figure out what the things to do in Bay Roberts are. Unfortunately there isn't much! But we had a good time exploring and talking to the people we met along the way! We spent a good portion of the day up in Harbor Grace, it's a beautiful little town. As we were knocking one lady, who was really sweet and had us in for juice and cookies! We just talked and cooled off (It was really hot outside! 23C! (so like... 70's? maybe) It was a tender mercy, just a sweet lady who took time to talk to us.
Thursday: Zone Conference!!! We got up really early (5:30 haha) and drove for 3 hours to Gander for our conference. it was our last conference with President Leavitt. At the end of the month he will be leaving and our new Mission President, President Pratt, will be here! It was bittersweet saying goodbye. We had excellent training, really felt the spirit and Sister Fenn, Elder Gibb, Elder Cox (From mapleton) and I all sang "Come Unto Christ" It was beautiful and a wonderful feeling.
Friday: Dun Dun Dun Dun..... 16 months!? It was another mile marker. Where has the time gone? We spent our day weekly planning, doing some family history (It's so fun! But I was looking at my Grandma John Arn's line from Switzerland and it was so confusing!) and we had another lesson with Sister Smith! Yay! I love teaching the most. I also got a letter from Grandma Winnie with her testimony in it! I was so thankful to receive that!
Saturday: We went up to a small community called Fresh Water to help them with the town clean up day! We had a lot of fun picking up the trash and spent time with the sweetest lady. She has a hard time making it to church because she cares for her mother who is in her 90's! Then we headed back to Bay Roberts for an exciting event! The Baptism of Chloe Wier! Her family is active in the church, (they live 3 hours away) and she just turned 8. It was a beautiful time. I was so grateful to see their faithful family. Truly that is how it should be! Families being raised in the gospel, children who glow and just know that God loves them and they are His children! It was so wonderful!
Another miracle came, because although I had received grandma's letter by the time I got home and went to read it, it had disappeared! I couldn't find it anywhere! I searched high and low but couldn't find it. I offered prayers for help. As we were walking up the steps to the church for the baptism I looked around and saw the letter laying in the flower bed! It had been sprinkling out but though the envelope was a little damp, the letter was dry! It was definitely an answer to prayer and another small miracle that helped me to know God cares about the small things.
Sunday: Church was wonderful! I learned a lot about the scriptures from our classes, and Sister Sanders gave a beautiful talk about Charity. Just the big difference we can make if we choose to comfort and reach out rather than judge when we see situations we don't approve of. We never know the extraordinary situations people are in. If we take a minute to talk to them and help them we might realize there is something bigger happening in their lives. We were out knocking and met some great people, and in the evening we visited with the Shorts, a sweet couple.
Missionary work is a wonderful blessing! I've had a wonderful week, and we saw God's hand in many things!
I hope everything is going well for you.
Lots of Love,
Sister Smith
