Hello everyone!
Here's my weekly update of the exciting adventures I have on my mission. I hope all of you are doing well. I've been trying to write more letters recently. So if you would like a letter please let me know! Also I'd love letters, so you can do that too ;)
Monday: We got a new investigator! We went to our appointment with our potential and he was actually there! Most of our appointments fall through so this was a nice surprise. We had a fairly good first lesson with him despite the fact that he actually thought we were coming on Thursday and I'm pretty sure we woke him up from a nap.
Tuesday: We had a district meeting in which we had some great role-plays practicing the How to Begin Teaching points. Helpful points that put our purpose very simply. "Our message, which is centered in Jesus Christ, is of great value and importance" and "Each person we teach has personal challenges and concerns, whatever your concerns or needs may be, the Saviour and His teachings, the gospel, will help you" They're just handy because it can be hard to express what you want to in the moment. I know I'm bad with words! Then we had some potentials fall through and we walked around a ton! We did get to go to Supper at Pizza Delight which was a lot of fun. My Grandma was really nice and wanted us to be able to eat a good meal, so we went out and I got ribs. It was so delicious and reminded me of home. Almost every year my dad would cook ribs for my birthday, and though the ones at Pizza Delight didn't have as much charcoal on them as I'm used to ;) it was a taste of home. Then we tried to go donate blood at the blood drive, but my iron count was low. (they wanted 25 but mine was 24!) and Sister Spencer's pulse was too high. So we couldn't donate.
Wednesday: we visited a recent convert who lives at the Victoria Manor, then we went to a relief society activity which was surprisingly fun! There were four relief society sisters there.
Thursday: We met with a less active and her friend from Halifax who is a member but wanted to see our church. then We volunteered at the local Artisans Market, they had sixty kids come on a field trip and we took them around in groups and showed them the different sections. The cutest little girl came up to say something and started like this, "Ummm Miss... Sister Smith" So cute. our lesson with our investigator fell through so we ended up tracting for hours in the rain.
Friday: We had weekly planning, then some meetings, blah blah blah. Just kidding, they are very exciting meetings. We went to help a Sister in our Branch put together the hymn list for the next few months. Sister Spencer plays the piano at church and I lead the music. then we had Supper at the Rance family's home, they are some of the funnest people. I love them (funnest is a word) and we ended up talking about Dad and his bear lectures. When they came to games night later on they were quoting him! Guess they found dad on youtube. That was really funny. Games night was fun too! I got completely creamed in two rounds of chess though. So I think I'll avoid that next week.
Saturay: Our Sister Training Leaders, Sister Olsen and Sister Lewis, came down for visits with us. Sister Lewis and I checked potentials, knocked on doors and talked about the work. Next transfer the mission is going to be focusing on Members and how we can strengthen them. I am really excited about that! Then we went to the Elders Baptism! That was the first baptism I have seen while on my mission! It was so exciting. Sister Spencer and I sang "Lord I Would Follow Thee" which went pretty well, I was nervous and messed up the first line, but that was the first time I'd ever done alto so I don't feel too bad about it. It was fun and I felt the spirit so much!
Sunday: Our investigator came to church! Ah! It was so crazy, I was very happy for him. He seemed to like it a lot. All of the talks were on the spirit and working to get closer to God and hopefully that is what he needed to hear. I love to see people gain faith in Christ.
Okay so that was what I had going on, it was a usual week for me. tell me about your week!
Loves,
Sister Smith
